José Luis Guerin
José Luis Guerin is a director and screenwriter of his own films, mixing fiction and documentary, blurring the boundaries between the two genres. He is the author of Los motivos de Berta (1983), Innisfree (1990), The Specter of Thuit (1997), En construcción (2000), Correspondence Jonas Mekas – J.L. Guerin (2011), The Sapphire of St. Louis (2015), The Academy of Muses (2015), De una isla (2019). His films have been presented in many festivals such as Venice (Official Selection), Cannes (Un Certain Regard, Directors’ Fortnight), Berlin (Forum), San Sebastian (Official Competition), Locarno, Rotterdam, Tokyo… He is perhaps one of the Spanish filmmakers most praised by critics and audiences at international festivals. Retrospectives have been dedicated to him in festivals and in important cultural centers such as the Centre Georges Pompidou (Paris) or the Harvard Film Archive (Cambridge). In 2011, he was awarded the National Film Prize in Spain.
