The Love of Statues

The Love of Statues was inspired by a visit to the Musee D’Automate in Souillac. There is no dialogue but there is a coherent theme which is developed through the imagery, combining found-footage and archive stills (including early photographs from the hospital Salpetrière).

Peter Samson studied painting at the Royal College of art, then in the 80’s began to experiment with film, processing and screening with the London Film-makers Co-operative. In 1981 his Graded Games was screened widely in European festivals, then in 1983, The Pharaoh’s Parachute was short-listed for Grierson Award and screened at the BFI in London. He also worked part-time as a teacher and lecturer, concentrating on mainly on his own practice.
