The Golden Wolf of Balolé / Le Loup d’Or de Balolé
by Chloé Aïcha Boro
(Documentary, Burkina Faso/France, 2019, 65’, OV)

In the heart of Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, several thousand men, women and children work hard in a granite quarry. This provides them with a meagre income that enables them to survive on a daily basis. With her documentary, Chloé Aïcha Boro offers an insight into the life of these modern slaves, exploited by stone sellers, and who live on the margins of a society that refuses to see them.
“This documentary goes far. Because Aïcha Boro makes the link with the revolution in Burkina, paying attention to self-organisation to avoid intermediaries and decide collectively. (…) Because she places these characters in time, in dignity, without pathos, in the light of economic and relational power relations. What these excluded people say is admirably relevant and human.” on-tenk.com
