Contemporary World Writers – Peter Handke

The interview with Peter Handke took place a little before Christmas 2019 in his house in Chaville. It is probably the first interview of this importance after the Nobel Prize ceremony. In it, he looks back on the different phases of his creation and his life, from his beginnings in the literary revolution of the sixties, through Repetition (1986), where Yugoslavia is mentioned for the first time as his literary toponym, to the works whose theme is the space of the former Yugoslavia. Some questions: how, in his writing, does the external world become the internal world and vice versa? How does a tragic ending bring about catharsis? What is his relationship to Yugoslavia, this eros that drives him?

Neda Valčić Lazović is a journalist, essayist and literary translator. She is an editor at RTS – Radio Television of Serbia – Art and Culture editorial office. Author of the series Contemporary Writers of the World, in the last twenty years she has made portraits of Mario Vargas Ljosa, Jean-Marie Le Clésio, Orhan Pamuk, Peter Handke, Günter Grass, Salman Rushdie, Paul Auster,Alexander Barykin, Jonathan Franzen, Michael Cunningham, Ian McEwan, Lyudmila Ulitskaya, Viktor Erofeyev, Jean Bodrillard, Alain Badiou, Jacques Rancière, Irvin Yalom, Julia Kristeva, as well as other thinkers who have marked the international scene at the turn of the twentieth century. In 2011, she received the insignia of Chevallier de l’ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
