Born in 1984 in Rønne, Denmark, Mikkel Boe Følsgaard is a Danish actor who rose to prominence with his portrayal of King Christian VII in “Royal Affair“, a role for which he received the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the 2012 Berlinale while still a student. Since then, he has established himself as one of the leading figures in contemporary Danish cinema, with notable roles in “The Forgotten“, “The Rain“, “Borgen“, and “Le Comte de Monte-Cristo“.
He combines careers in cinema, television and theater.

Biography
Mikkel Boe Følsgaard was born on May 1, 1984, in Rønne, on the island of Bornholm in Denmark. It was thanks to his grandfather that he took his first steps in front of the camera, in the television series “Bryggeren” in 1997. Passionate about theater since high school, he joined the Statens Teaterskole in Copenhagen in 2008, where he developed a demanding approach to his profession, alongside his first roles on stage.
In 2012, while still a student, he landed the lead role in Nikolaj Arcel’s “Royal Affair“, where he played King Christian VII. This first film role earned him the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin Film Festival. He became a rising star of European cinema.
He then landed roles in notable films such as “The Forgotten” by Martin Zandvliet, “Rosita“, “Walk With Me” and “A Perfect Family“. On television, he became known to the general public with the series “The Heirs“, “The Rain” (Netflix), “Borgen” and “October“. He also stars in “Le Comte de Monte-Cristo” (2024) by Bille August.
Følsgaard also remains faithful to Danish theater, performing in Shakespearean plays and contemporary adaptations. He has been married to Freja Friis since 2016, with whom he has two children.
