His first feature film, "Ephemeral Weddings", opened the ACID selection at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. The film was released in France the same year. After directing a documentary, "Passeurs", in 2020, he returned to fiction with "Intruders".

Biography
Reza Serkanian is a Franco-Iranian director, screenwriter, and editor, born in 1966 in Iran. Passionate about cinema from a young age, he directed his first short films at the age of 17 and quickly gained international recognition. His work is characterized by a poetic and humanistic approach, often addressing social and political issues through subtle and intimate storytelling.
After studying film in Iran, he joined the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam (Rijksakademie), where he refined his cinematic vision and visual style. His artistic journey led him to work in several countries, including the Netherlands and Gabon, before settling in France in 1998. Alongside his directing career, he developed expertise as a film editor and cinematographer, collaborating on various cinematic and documentary projects.
In 2011, Reza Serkanian gained wider public recognition with his debut feature film, Ephemeral Weddings, a poignant drama exploring the traditions and contradictions of Iranian society. The film was selected to open the ACID section at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, marking a significant milestone in his career. Later that year, Ephemeral Weddings was released in France and received positive reviews for its refined direction and delicate handling of its themes.
After dedicating several years to documentary projects and working as an editor and cinematographer, he directed Passeurs in 2020, a powerful documentary highlighting migration and the struggles of those forced into exile. He then returned to fiction with Les Intrus, his second narrative feature film, continuing his tradition of realism and poetic storytelling.
Through his work, Reza Serkanian continues to explore themes of identity, exile, and human relationships, offering a perspective that is both sensitive and socially engaged. His films are distinguished by a minimalist aesthetic and contemplative storytelling, demonstrating his mastery of cinema and deep empathy for his subjects.
