Un documentaire dressant le portrait de Tim Treadwell, un écologiste controversé et charismatique, et de sa compagne Amie Huguenard, qui trouvèrent tous deux la mort, mutilés par des ours dont ils assuraient la protection.

Werner Herzog est né à Munich en 1942. Après des études littéraires à Munich, il crée sa maison de production Werner Herzog Film Produktion en 1963 et commence à réaliser ses premiers courts-métrages. Son premier long-métrage, Signes de vie, remporte l’Ours d’argent au Festival de Berlin 1968. À la suite de ce succès, ses films, documentaires ou fictions, lui valent une renommée internationale et le place au coeur du nouveau cinéma allemand. Son oeuvre documentaire extrêmement riche, dont la réalisation s’étale sur toute sa carrière, s’attache à des hommes hors du commun, plongés dans des situations extrêmes, mais aussi au mysticisme, à la foi, ou encore à l’art et aux origines du monde.
